Your next analytical task is to write a report on the codes and conventions of the Thriller genre.
- A crime at the core of the narrative (often murder, but not necessarily - if not, what?).
- A complex narrative structure with plot twists.
- Themes of identity... (mistaken identity, lost identity, secret identity etc)
- Themes of voyeurism.
- Protagonist with a ‘flaw’ which is exploited by the antagonist.
- Titles often reflect a theme of the film.
- There is often a scene near the end of the film in which the protagonist is in peril.
- Mise en scene which reflects the protagonist’s struggle... (busy streets for confusion, deserts for isolation etc)
Chose a thriller film you know and analyse how it either follows or disregards these conventions.
Write it as a Word document.
Include pictures.
•Coursework Brief 7:
The opening sequence from a new film including titles.
It's called 'brief 7' because there are a few different briefs which schools and colleges can chose from including magazine production, radio, web design etc. We do the film opening sequence because we have the best equipment for that one.
You will work in groups of 3.
You must individually enter a folder in 3 parts:
Production Log... this is a portfolio of all you planning and research 30 marks (25%)
The Production... a DVD of your opening sequence. 60 marks (50%)
